Vehicle collision and shooting

Everett Police respond to vehicle collision and shooting, victim dies, suspect arrested and booked.

Major Crimes detectives and the Traffic Safety Unit are assisting with the investigation.

The Everett Police Department responded to a report of someone being shot in the 5100 block of Glenwood Avenue. At the same time, a rear-end vehicle collision was reported a block away. Arriving officers found the vehicles blocking Glenwood Avenue. The driver of the rear vehicle appeared to have been shot. A suspect in the shooting was detained at the scene. Everett patrol officers, Major Crimes detectives, and the Traffic Safety Unit are investigating the incident.

At 7:12pm on July 6th, Everett officers were dispatched to a call of shooting that had just occurred. While driving to the area they received another call regarding a vehicle collision. The arriving officers found the rear-end collision blocking Glenwood Avenue. The front vehicle was empty. The rear vehicle was occupied by one person, in the driver’s seat. That male, believed to be in his 40’s, had severe head injuries, and appeared to have been shot. He was removed from the vehicle so emergency first aid could be provided, but he could not be revived. Bullet casings were discovered near the vehicle.

A witness to the collision told officers that the suspect was standing nearby, in a group of onlookers. An adult male in his 50’s was contacted and detained. A handgun was recovered from his pocket. Detectives interviewed the suspect and later booked him into the Snohomish County Jail for Murder 2nd.

The Traffic Safety Unit responded and will assist with the collision reconstruction. Both vehicles will be impounded and secured, pending search warrants. The roadway was closed for this investigation but is now reopened.

The Major Crimes Unit will collect evidence, interview witnesses and attempt to reconstruct the events that lead to the collision, and subsequent assault on the driver. More information will be released as it becomes available.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner responded and has taken custody of the body. They will determine the victim’s cause and manner of death and will be responsible for releasing his identity, after next of kin notifications.
