The YMCA of Snohomish County has named Scott Washburn as its new President/CEO effective June 1, 2008. Washburn is a 28 year veteran of the YMCA movement.

Washburn succeeds outgoing President/CEO Jerry Beavers who joined the YMCA of Snohomish County in 1987 and is retiring effective May 31, 2008 after a distinguished 37 year YMCA career.

"As one of the largest human services organizations in Snohomish County, I am honored and excited to be selected as the next CEO of the YMCA of Snohomish County," said Washburn. "The YMCA works to build a community where all people are encouraged to develop to their fullest potential in spirit, mind, and body. I look forward to carrying on this successful tradition and to continue to provide programs that meet the needs of our growing community."

The nationwide search began in November 2007 to replace Beavers. More than 50 candidates applied for the position. The CEO Search Committee composed of eight YMCA of Snohomish County Board of Trustee members worked diligently with YMCA of the USA national consultants to identify and select a CEO who embodies the YMCAs core values while personifying the mission of the movement. Mr. Washburn has served the YMCA movement for 28 years as a branch executive director, CEO of the South Sound YMCA in Olympia, consultant for YMCA of the USA, and most recently senior vice president/COO of the YMCA of Greater Seattle.

"Scotts passion for community combined with a career dedicated to the Y movement made Scott an obvious choice for this position," said Carol Whitehead, chair of the CEO Search Committee. "Were confident that Scott will take our YMCA to the next level."

"The expertise and leadership Scott brings to our YMCA is invaluable," said John Haskell, board chair for the YMCA of Snohomish County. "The committee unanimously selected him based on his experience and track record leading other YMCA programs, branches, and associations."
