Multiple residents displaced in late night fire

EVERETT, WA – Just before 11pm Everett Fire was dispatched to a house fire in the 5900 block of Broadway. Firefighters arriving on scene found a well involved fire on the back side of the house. Flames were shooting 30 feet above the roof line.

Firefighters made an aggressive attack and were able to bring the fire under control in approximately 40 minutes.

There were a total of 14 adults and 2 children living in the single family residence that was built in 1958 according to Snohomish County Assessors records. The site also listed the house as having 7 bedrooms.

One resident woke up and saw flames in a storage area under the deck and alerted the other occupants of the fire and everyone was able to get out safely. Red Cross was called to the scene to provide assistance with the displaced residents.

Crews were called back out at approximately 4 am because there had been some extension into some concealed areas on the upper floor that was not in the original area of origin. Crews arrived and brought the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes.

The fire is under investigation and is still too early to pinpoint an exact cause due to the extreme damage.

The Everett Fire Department would like to remind citizens to have a home escape plan before a fire and to check your smoke detectors every six months to coincide with daylight savings time.
