Weekend closures westbound US 2
Only three weekend closures remain for this summer’s US 2 paving project, but Snohomish County travelers must brace for the biggest traffic delays yet.
Contractor crews working for the Washington Department of Transportation will close all lanes of westbound US 2 between State Route 9 and Interstate 5 from 7 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday on the following dates:
• Aug. 10-13
• Aug. 17-20
• Sept. 7-10
All closures are weather-dependent.
Detour changes
During these closures, crews will repave the west end of the Hewitt Avenue trestle, between Homeacres Road and the I-5 interchange. Because of this, the 20th Street Southeast detour used during previous closures will not be available. Instead, travelers must detour onto SR 9 with options to go northbound on a 10-mile route to SR 528 in Marysville or southbound on a 12-mile route to SR 96 in Mill Creek.
“Those detour routes are already busy on the weekends without the additional traffic,” says WSDOT Project Engineer Mark Sawyer. “We need folks to adjust their plans, put off discretionary trips, or be prepared for lengthy delays.”
