Fire District 7 and Camano Island Fire mourn loss

[Monroe, WA] - It is with great sadness that Snohomish County Fire District 7 and Camano Island Fire & Rescue announce the unexpected passing of one of their own. Erik Shouse passed away at his home early on Sunday, April 22, 2018.

Shouse was hired as a firefighter/paramedic with Fire District 7 on January 6, 2003. He has spent most of his career assigned to the Medic Unit at Station 76 in Mill Creek. Shouse had a contagious smile and drive to serve his community.

For 15 years Erik was a valued member of Fire District 7 providing a quality of care expected by the citizens that we serve,” says Fire Chief Gary Meek. His humor in the station brought a calmness to his crew when necessary. He will be greatly missed by his Fire District 7 family.”

Later in his career, Shouse wanted to find a way to serve his local community of Camano Island, which is where his family resides. In 2014 he was elected as a Fire Commissioner for Island County Fire District 1 (Camano Island Fire & Rescue). In addition to his duties as a Fire commissioner, he also served on many committees that directly served the citizens of Camano Island.

"Erik was a good friend. He was a Union Member with District 7 and he was able to take off his Union hat when serving as a Commissioner for us. I greatly respected his ability to see both sides of an issue. I will always remember him as a champion for our firefighters and our citizens, as well as a devoted father and husband" said Chief Michael Schick.

Shouse is survived by his loving wife and their two young daughters. He had a passion for fishing, but most of all he loved his family.

A private service will be held for Erik on Sunday, April 29th.

Chief Meek and Chief Schick ask that you please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
