Celebrating the Life of Sue Sullivan

Over 200 relatives and friends of Susan Elizabeth Sullivan came together for a Memorial Celebration of Life on Sunday, February 12th. The gathering at Crossroads, Thomas Farms, brought together people who have shared Sue’s passion for volunteering in the community of Snohomish and worked with her on events, fundraisers and projects. Relatives traveled from as far away as Wisconsin and San Diego to pay their respects and join with Sue’s husband Jim Sullivan in hearing the many tributes made to the memories of Sue.

The Celebration of Life was hosted by the Snohomish Chamber of Commerce, Snohomish Lions Club and Snohomish Kiwanis Club. Sue was a member of all three of these organizations. Sue’s long- time friend and fellow Lion’s Club member, Merle Kirkley acted as the events MC and another dear friend, Sondy McCuthan, owner of the Cabbage Patch Restaurant, catered the event.

Guest enjoyed a variety of Sue’s favorite foods, including pulled Pork furnished by Dan LeMay and Michol Phillips. Sondy furnished probably twice as much food as needed, making sure she held true to one of Sue’s pet peeves, never running out of food. Sue and Jim owned the Silver King Restaurant for many years and Sue served meals for several organizations and their meetings, banquets, as well as catered numerous special events.

Sue once ran out of her famous meatballs at one Lion’s Club Meeting, a favorite “man treat” and was reminded often, mostly in jest by the guys. She was determined never to let that happen again. Such stories were shared as fond memories of Sue during the comments from guests.

Common to most tributes was the message if how Sue touched hearts, gave her time more than generously and will never be forgotten as one of the most compassionate and caring people who has ever lived in the community of Snohomish.

Staying true to the spirit and passion of Sue Sullivan, “always raising money” for a local need, attendees were given the opportunity to contribute to the Snohomish Community Kitchen, a local non-profit service meals to those in need with support of local churches and organizations. Close to $2,000 will be presented to the Community Kitchen in the name of volunteer Sue Sullivan, who enjoyed organizing meals and menu planning for this group over the past few years.
