Gov. Inslee Surveys Bothell Fire Damage

Nearly three weeks after a devastating fire in historic downtown Bothell, Gov. Jay Inslee walked through the disaster to survey the damage.

Gov. Inslee also met with Bothell business owners to open dialog in a search for answers regarding rebuilding funding options and whether the state would get involved.

The three alarm fire in July destroyed or displaced nearly 20 businesses to the tune of an estimated 15 million dollars. More than 50 firefighters responded. The flames were so hot they caused a construction crane to buckle and fold in half.

Officials have not yet released the fire’s cause.

Donations have poured in from the community and the total stands at nearly $60,000. The city has set up a business assistance recovery team at the Fire Marshal’s Office and City Hall. Local merchants hope Gov. Inslee will encourage the state to step in with some relief.

The governor was also asked to help secure a grant for the City’s Main Street enhancement project.
The City is hoping to begin the rebuilding process next summer.
