Fatal pedestrian collision in Everett

Traffic Safety Unit detectives are investigating a fatal collision after a car hits a pedestrian.

At about 8:45 p.m. tonight, officers responded to the report of a collision involving a vehicle hitting a pedestrian in the intersection of Evergreen Way and Pecks Drive. Arriving officers assessed the scene and determined the pedestrian had died from injuries sustained in the collision.

Everett Police Traffic Safety Unit detectives also responded to the incident. Based on their preliminary investigation, an adult male pedestrian was walking and left the sidewalk in the intersection when he was struck by a northbound vehicle. The driver initially stayed at the scene but left. Witnesses provided information about the vehicle and the driver called 911 from a nearby business. Detectives located the driver, a 43 year-old Lynnwood man, and interviewed him.

The involved vehicle was impounded as evidence. No arrests or charges have been filed in this case as detectives need to conclude their investigation.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the body to determine identity as well as cause and manner of death.

Traffic on Evergreen Way was reduced to one lane in each direction for about an hour and a half but all lanes are now open.
