HopeWorks Station Partners with PUD and Gets Solar Panels

Local non-profit HopeWorks Social Enterprises, a Housing Hope affiliate, was awarded a $40,000 grant through Snohomish County PUD’s Planet Power to install a 9.9 Kilowatt solar array at HopeWorks Station, located at 3331 Broadway Ave, Everett. The 36 solar panels will be installed on the roof in mid-October.
“This project aligns with one of our core values - sustainability,” said Ross Latham, HopeWorks Social Enterprises Chief Operating Officer.

Planet Power’s goal is to support small-scale solar projects on buildings where customers can learn about solar and see the technology in use. CafeWorks, a small café at HopeWorks Station which will train residents of Housing Hope and Cocoon House in customer service and coffee making, is the most recent social enterprise and will launch on November 30th. It will serve as a location to show how solar power is harnessed and will provide educational materials for the public on renewable energy along with two monitors on the building for the public to see the results created by the system in real time.

“The system will include educational material and real-rime production data to help illustrate the potential of solar power in our community even during cloudy weather and at cooler temperatures,” said Latham.
Visitors to HopeWorks Station are encouraged to ask questions about the system, the power it produces and the operating savings potential of this renewable energy.
