Alexis Cheney paged in the Washington State

Alexis Cheney paged in the Washington State House of Representatives February 20-24. The Cavelero Mid High School student was sponsored by 39th District State Rep. Sam Low.

Alexis paged in the seventh week of the 105-day legislative session. Her duties included assisting the Washington State House of Representatives with responsibilities on the chamber floor, making deliveries on the Capitol Campus, and supporting member offices. Alexis also attended Page School where she learned more about the Washington State Legislature.

“It was a true privilege to sponsor Alexis in the page program. With so much for young people to contend with these days it is essential we do everything we can to make sure they understand how government works, how much their voice matters, and the importance of being civically engaged. Our page program is an invaluable tool in that effort and in some cases may even be the first step on a path to becoming a future legislator,” said Low, R-Lake Stevens.

House pages work a 40-hour week, earn a stipend of $50 a day and can earn up to 20 hours of community service.

To serve as a page in the Washington State House of Representatives, students must be at least 14 years of age and have not reached their 17th birthday. The Washington State Legislature is making a one-time exception in 2023. The week of April 2-7 will be designated for students who are 17-18 years old and were unable to previously participate due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
