Preview the final stage of the SR 9 and SR 204 improvement

LAKE STEVENS – This summer, the third stage of the years-long project to build four new roundabouts between the State Route 9 and State Route 204 intersections near Frontier Village in Lake Stevens will begin.

The addition of these roundabouts is part of an ongoing effort to improve safety and mobility in this busy and growing part of Lake Stevens. Since 2019, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation have also widened parts of SR 9 and added noise walls.

This $69.5 million project is funded by the 2015 Connecting Washington transportation funding package.

Visitors to the online open house can view the plans for the new roundabouts, learn more about the work already completed, help us improve our outreach, and find up to the date information about closures and detours.

SR 9/SR 204 online open house information:

When: Monday, June 13 through Monday, July 25

Where: engage.wsdot.wa.gov/sr-9-sr-204

In addition to the online open house, members of the project team will be available for an in-person open house from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22, outside the Frontier Village Safeway. Location details and directions are available on the online open house and project webpage. This event may be rescheduled if the weather is bad.

Attendees will be able to ask questions directly related to the construction and designs for Stage 3 of this project. This event is free and open to the public.

If you cannot make the in-person event, the project team will also be available for two scheduled virtual office hours:

What travelers can expect
Stage 3 of construction is set to begin later this summer and be complete by fall of 2023. Extended closures and detours will be necessary to complete the work and more details on the exact dates of those closures will be available as it gets closer. This is the final stage of the project and WSDOT appreciates your continued patience and support.

Travelers can stay up to the date on the latest news from this project by following WSDOT on social media, signing up for the Snohomish County Newsletter, and visiting the project webpage and online open house.
