Everett Police take male into custody after firing off a shotgun.

At about 3:42am Everett Police officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 6800 block of Rainier Drive. Officers discovered that an adult male was shooting a shotgun out of his apartment. The area was surrounded by patrol officers and the regional SWAT team responded to assist. The male was taken into custody at about 5:30am.

At several times overnight, officers received calls related to the suspect, who was exhibiting signs of mental health challenges. His behavior during the earlier calls did not rise to the level of being involuntary transported for an evaluation. At about 3:42am, several 911 calls reported that someone in the same apartment had fired rounds off, believed to be from a shotgun. The person did not appear to be targeting anyone specifically.

Patrol officers recognized the apartment from earlier calls and were able to evacuate nearby neighbors. No one else was believed to be inside with the male. The regional SWAT team was activated and responded to assist with safely surrounding and negotiating with the person in the apartment. After arriving, SWAT was about engage in some verbal dialogue with the male, but he was not cooperative. At about 5:30am the male ran from the apartment, but was taken into custody by SWAT personnel that were waiting outside.

A check of the apartment found damage from shotgun rounds, to include pipes that had been broken and water spilling out onto the floors. Other than the damage, no one was found injured, either inside the apartment or in the adjacent area.

The male was briefly evaluated on scene by Everett Fire, and then transported to Providence Medical Center, where he will undergo additional medical screening. He will also receive a mental health evaluation. Patrol officers continue to investigate the scene. Criminal charges related to the firearms call are pending.
