Crews fighting wildfire East of Gold Bar

Gold Bar, WA – At 4:47 p.m. crews were dispatched to a report of smoke on the hillside up Forest Service Road 62, east of Gold Bar.

Due to accurate mapping, the fire size is 75 acres. Winds are at between 3-5 mph with gusts up to 8 mph going east. The terrain is steep with lots of timber, slash and debris which is making the fire is hard to access.

There is a level 1 evacuation notice to residents in on the south side of Hwy 2 between 437th Dr. SE and FS Rd 62.

Crews from Snohomish County Fire District #26, Fire District #7, Fire District #3, Getchell Fire, Fire District #28, Duvall Fire, Forest Service, and Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office are all assisting with the incident.

Crews will be at the fire through the night. Our main objective is the keep the public and crews safe.

– As of 5:30 am crews are still monitoring the wildfire located east of Gold Bar. The fire has grown to approximately 200 acres.

Overnight command issued a level 3 evacuation to residents on the south side of hwy 2 between 437th Dr. SE and 439th Dr. SE. An evacuation shelter in place at Sultan Middle School. There is still currently a level 1 evacuation notice to residents in the Big Bend community.

Crews caught 4 spot fires overnight that were a quarter mile ahead of the fire. Currently the winds are favorable and the fire is starting to push away from homes. No homes have been lost and no injuries have been reported.

The fire command is transitioning to a DNR Type 3 regional team today. Fire Districts will be available for structural protection when needed.
