Washington opened its four-game road trip beating Portland State in a midweek non-conference game, 9-0 (6) Wednesday night in Hillsboro, Ore. Ten different Huskies tallied at least one hit while three recorded multiple RBI in the game. For the eighth game in a row, Washington scored in the first inning, before eventually ending the game early via a five-run sixth-inning.
The Huskies improved to 30-7 on the season with its win while Portland State now is 7-22.

Washington took advantage of senior Kylee Lahners’ first career triple to leadoff the game. After freshman Taylor Van Zee drew a walk and stole second, Lahners came home on the throw down to second to give the Huskies an early 1-0 lead.

Washington got back on the board in the top of the third thanks to two Husky home runs. Courtney Gano sailed her 14th home run of the season to the deepest part of the yard. After junior Kimberlee Souza singled, freshman Krystal Aubert knocked out her second homer of the season, a soaring shot that put the Huskies up 4-0 in the game.

Portland State strung together a pair of singles in the bottom of the fifth but the Husky defense escaped the inning unscathed before jumping on the Vikings in a big way in the top of the sixth. Washington recorded six hits to plate five runs.

Seniors Kelli Suguro and Lahners drew back-to-back walks before pinch hitter Dani Braun delivered an RBI single to plate Suguro. Sophomore Ali Aguilar then continued the rally with her 19th double of the season to bring home two more runs. After freshman Kelly Burdick reached on a bunt-single and stole second, Souza followed with her second hit of the game, a single to plate two more and give Washington a 9-0 advantage in the sixth.

Portland State used a one-out rally in the bottom half of the inning to load the bases against Washington reliever Kirstyn Thomas but the freshman induced back-to-back fly outs to end the threat and the game early to give Washington its 30th win of the season.

Aubert was 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI while Aguilar and Souza each recorded two hits and two RBI to lead the Husky offense.
Junior Hailey Bator (9-2) earned the victory, going 5.0 innings in the start and allowing no runs on five hits and two walks. Thomas pitched a scoreless inning of relief, allowing one hit and one walk.

No. 19/17 Washington will now travel to Eugene, Ore. to play No. 2/3 Oregon this weekend. The Huskies and Ducks will play a three-game series starting Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. at Howe Field. All three games will air live on Pac-12 Networks.
