FEMACorps Green 5 Arrives in Washington

Starting June 17th, the nine members of FEMA Corps, a branch of the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps program, Green Five team are working with the FEMA Region X office in various capacities.

The Region X office represents FEMA in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. Green Five is working in three different sections of the office’s National Preparedness Branch. Team members are working on various projects including America’s PreparAthon!, threat and hazard assessments, and planning training and exercises.

The team's second round project differs greatly from their first round project in Los Angeles where they developed and facilitated a disaster preparedness weekend that engaged the local houses of worship. They are excited to for the new opportunities and challenges that Washington will present. “With any challenge there is always an element of creativity [needed] to address those and in that sense I feel I always grow when presented with these new opportunities” said team member Marcos Luna who is working with National Preparedness to complete the much needed task of standardizing state briefing books for FEMA Region X.
