36 confirmed victims of the mudslide

There are now 36 confirmed victims of the mudslide, according to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner. Thirty-two of those victims have been identified. Ten people are still missing according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
Three FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers are open to assist residents who have been affected by the SR530 mudslide. Locations and hours of operation of the centers are as follows:
• Oso Fire Station (Snohomish County Fire Protection District 25 - parking lot), 21824 State Route 530 NE, Arlington, WA 98223
• Arlington Public Works Administration-Stillaguamish Conference Room, 154 West Cox Ave., Arlington, WA 98223
• Darrington Ranger District Office (Parking Lot), 1405 Emens Ave. North, Darrington, WA 98241
The Disaster Recovery Centers will be open Monday through Friday from 11am to 8pm, Saturday from 11am to 4pm, and closed on Sunday. Those affected by the slide should register with FEMA by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or at www.disasterassistance.gov.
At the close of business on April 8, FEMA reported that 335 individuals or families had registered for assistance.
In addition to registering with FEMA, individuals and families needing assistance can call North Sound 211. Individuals with (425) and (360) area codes can simply dial 211 24 hours a day. Individuals with other area codes can reach North Sound 211 by calling 1 (800) 223-8145. Referral Specialists will assist callers in filling basic and immediate needs such as gasoline, housing, and food.
Personnel and equipment continue in the search effort. Searchers include FEMA Urban Search and Rescue and county dog teams, excavators, National Guard, an Incident Management Team, and other local, state and federal organizations.
The Army Corps of Engineers continues construction, in coordination with Snohomish County, of a temporary berm to reduce flood impacts in the slide area. The temporary berm is being constructed in the area of SR 530 near milepost 37 at C Post Road and 312th Street NE.
Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) maintenance crews are assisting in the effort by clearing debris from the search areas. WSDOT is working with Snohomish County to develop a plan for clearing SR530 after all search efforts are complete.
