Fundraiser to Help Children in Tibet

Education at Elevation presents a fundraiser for underprivileged children living in the mountains of Kham,Tibet (Sichuan, China), called "Make a Splash: Bringing running water on the Tibetan Plateau," May 17 at Om Culture, 2210 N Pacific St. in Seattle.  The event includes a Tibetan-Indian feast and an auction featuring blown glass artwork, jewelry and more.  Live music will be performed by Tony Smiley with his unique blend of original soul-infused songs, contemporary rock, hip-hop, and creative cover mash-ups. Make a Splash tickets are on sale now for $45 at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/625903, or by calling  Brown Paper Tickets event concierges at 1-800-838-3006.  Ticket buyers will earn a Splash Card for a free beverage if tickets are purchased before the event date.

Wendy Wong, founder of Education at Elevation says, “The water system will greatly improve the health of the students and nomad community. Many suffer from respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses that could be prevented by easy access to water and good hand washing.” The community is extremely remote and Wong says it’s a five hour drive to the nearest medical clinic – if the mountain road is clear and if the nomads can find transportation.

Education at Elevation has spent several years collecting data regarding weather, temperature and ice formation and has worked with water experts to ensure the project will successfully provide a sustainable water supply through the year.  “We’ve done our homework and we are ready to get started with the help of our supporters,” says Wong.

Founded in 2007, Education at Elevation is committed to improving the lives of Tibetan children and elders living in rural Eastern Tibet. Its vision is to bring hope through education, emotional and spiritual support that will provide them with roots for a brighter future.
